First Thing I Tell a New Mentee

I advise mentees to focus more on what you want to do and accomplish than what position you want to hold. Two things you really control in life are who you spend your time with and what you spend it doing. If you think about your career that way, you will spend more time doing things you enjoy with people you like, accomplishing more of the things you want to accomplish. Of course, finding the right way to blend this approach with the company’s needs is critical.
